At first, I thought this was a cannonball. However, once cleaned this clearly was not the standard size of the 3 and/or 6lb cannonballs used during The American Revolution. This cast iron object's size is in-between a 3- and 6-pound cannonball. Plus, this iron ball is missing a small section, and most cannonballs did not break on contact. In the damaged area...there is still a small, centered hole. After researching other possible options ...This iron ball fits the description of a Morter Shell!!

My compelling journey metal detecting and researching our local Revolutionary War history. While determining what is myth and what are the facts. This expedition is covering both Camden and Burlington Counties, NJ. As I continue to search for Revolutionary War artifacts. The focus is on but not limited to, the evacuation route the British Army took from Philadelphia through NJ in June 1778.
The quest led me through the Townships and Boroughs of Gloucester, Mt Ephraim/Audubon, Haddonfield, Cherry Hill, Moorestown, Evesham, Mt Laurel, Hainesport, Lumberton, Mt Holly, Jacksonville, and Columbus.
All Donations will be used exclusively to fund my nonprofit, independent research project. I appreciate your time, kindness, and interest in our local history.
